RBI Axe SED 2011, SEM and SED365

sed2011The 44th Site Equipment Demonstration (SED) due to be held 17th – 19th May 2011 has been cancelled.  Unlike last year, this news may come as a shock to some in the industry following the positive organiser and exhibitor attitudes towards the show.

Managing Director, Robert Brighouse issued the following statement late Friday 12th November:

“Regretfully, RBI has taken the decision to cancel Site Equipment Demonstration (SED) 2011 and close Site Equipment Manager.

The recession in construction has continued to affect suppliers’ marketing budgets and despite the hard work of the sales team and goodwill from the market, the current level of commitment to next year's show is not what we had hoped and our feeling is the show is unlikely to meet our expectations. We therefore feel that we have no alternative but to cancel the show.

Since the closure of Contract Journal, RBI has supported SED with the monthly magazine Site Equipment Manager, and the website SED365.co.uk. Both these brands will close with immediate effect as a result of the cancellation of the show.”

SED 2012?
Sources within the SED team have confirmed that the institutional trade show and its related brands have been closed for good with no possible hope of return for the foreseeable future.

After supporting SED 2009 with a successful stand, Phoenix Survey & Safety continued this support with stands booked for the ill-fated 2010 and 2011 shows.  This final deathblow for the long standing brand is loss that will be felt throughout the industry.
