C-Scope unleash a new breed of cable location products
6th November 2009
Rumblings that leading manufacturer C-Scope were developing a new series of cable location equipment have been circulating for well over a year now. The New MXL Cable & Pipe Locator and MXT Signal Transmitter promise to offer significant benefits to users across a wide variety of industries.
So what's new? Adam Baker, Phoenix's very own Safety Products Manager was given the opportunity to put the new models through their paces. "As one of C-Scopes main UK distributors, Phoenix was lucky enough to be given pre-release models of the new equipment for assessment. It was immediately obvious the new models have been designed with C-Scope's "pick up and Go" ethos in mind. Both the MXL CAT and MXT Genny could easily be used by anyone who has experience with cable location equipment”.
“This leads us to the nitty-gritty of how these new units will actually benefit users whilst plying their trades on-site. The MXL features cable depth measurement capabilities as found in their popular XD model, but that’s where the similarity ends. The MXL has a multi-frequency transmitter mode allowing the user to detect 33KHz, 8KHz and 512/640Hz signals from the MXT transmitter or a sonde. The new ALLSCAN mode allows you to listen for frequencies ranging from 50Hz to 33KHz which will prove extremely useful to surveyors who need to complete a full site survey. Another innovation is the new “Current Signal Measurement” feature which allows you to easily differentiate the service you are tracing from other pipes and cables buried nearby”.
“The MXT Signal Generator has the standard features you would expect to see on a high-end signal transmitter, including an LCD display offering the user current power levels and function settings. What sets the MXT apart is that it has an adjustable power level which offers the user triple the power output of other signal generators on the market. This increased muscle has the benefit of providing longer distance tracing than was previously possible. The MXT also has three signal frequencies to choose from (33KHz 8KHz and 512/640Hz) and a choice of “pulsed” or “continuous” output which will allow you to keep tracing even in high-interference situations”.
“Whilst the aesthetics of a CAT and Genny are essentially a mute point, the modern, ergonomic design of the new cable location set goes some way to showing the care and attention that C-Scope have put into their new models. The result of this focus on customer requirement and ease of use is a package which I have no doubt will be a product of choice for a long time to come”.
